Abstract: In recent years, much attention has been paid to rechargeable lithium ion batteries (LIBs) due to their high energy density and long cycle lifetime. Most research activities are concerned with developing novel electrode materials with sufficiently high energy and power density for applications of LIBs in high-power devices, such as electric vehicles (EV) and hybrid electric vehicles (HEV). In our previous studies, we have successfully prepared amorphous carbon nanofibers and carbon nanotubes decorated with hollow graphitic carbon nanospheres by electrospinning. A hollow-tunnel structure in electrospun carbon/Ni nanofibres was also produced by diffusing Ni nanoparticles from the graphitic carbon spheres into the amorphous carbon nanofibres, which turns amorphous carbon into graphitic carbon. The resultant materials were further treated by chemical activation and acid treatment to develop activated N-doped hollow-tunneled graphitic carbon nanofibers. We demonstrated that these N-doped nanofibers are excellent anode materials for LIBs, displaying a superhigh reversible specific capacity of over ~1560 mAh g-1 and a remarkable volumetric capacity of ~1.8 Ah cm-3 at a current density of 0.1 A g-1 with outstanding rate capability and good cycling stability. Our results point to a new path for fabrication of polymer-based graphitic carbon nanofibers with a favorable nanostructure comprising N-doping, a high surface area, and a porous structure.

 

報告人簡介:Yiu-Wing Mai教授是在國際上有重要影響的著名材料學家和力學家,現為澳大利亞悉尼大學教授,澳大利亞聯邦傑出學者,澳大利亞科學院和工程院兩院院士,英國皇家學會外籍院士。他在材料與結構的斷裂和疲勞、先進複合材料制備和表征以及模拟、納米材料制備和表征以及優化等方面做出了具有重要國際影響的學術貢獻。先後獲國際獎項10餘次,被ISIHighlyCited.Com評為國際上最具影響的材料科學家之一,由他創建和領導的澳大利亞悉尼大學先進材料技術中心在國際上享有很高的聲譽。
